What Makes This Chocolate Chip Banana Bread The Best Kind Of Recipe

This Chocolate Chip Banana Bread is the kind of recipe you’ll always end up making over and over again because of how simple it is but how tasty the result is! The crumb of the bread is soft and moist while the outside has some of those crunchy, caramelized bits that are always the perfect kind of surprise. The banana flavor is very prominent while being complimented by those awaited bits of melted chocolate. It’s nostalgic (which I think is the best flavor profile) and is one of the easiest dishes to share at a party or get together. Whether you need to get rid of those bananas sitting on your counter or just want a delicious baked good, this Chocolate Chip Banana Bread will be there waiting for you!

Why This Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Always Works

The key to a great banana bread, especially Chocolate Chip Banana Bread, is the balance of all the ingredients. Melted butter will make the loaf super rich while the brown sugar will allow your bread to remain moist on the inside while also caramelizing the outside top slightly. The key is to fold in the flour gently, which will keep the gluten from being too tense and yield an overall dry lough. This recipe besides that one element is very forgiving, which is exactly what I want (and I hope you want) when it comes to making a delicious banana bread.

Tips & Variations

It’s okay if your bananas are a little bit brown on the outside, that means they are super sweet on the inside and have a super strong banana flavor!

To keep your loaf as moist and bouncy as possible, only the mix the flour until it’s incorporated and not any more.

I personally like to use dark chocolate as my chocolate chips because they are a little less sweet, which compliments the sweet banana bread a little better in my opinion.

If you don’t have any butter, feel free to use a neutral oil! I’ve found that better yields the richest loaf, but any fat type works.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I freeze chocolate chip banana bread?

Yes! Once your loaf is fully cooled, wrap the loaf tightly and freeze for up to 2 months. You can also freeze individual slices for easy grab-and-go snacks. My sister does this with our parents so they always have a loaf to go to in the freezer!

Why did my banana bread turn out dense?

Overmixing the batter or adding too much flour are the most common reasons. I try to place an extra emphasis on the “mix gently” part of the recipe.

Can I make this without chocolate chips?

Absolutely!! The base banana bread is delicious on its own or with nuts instead.

How do I know when it’s done?

A toothpick should come out with just a few moist bits or melted chocolate. A wet batter means that the inside is still raw and needs more time to cook.
